Every one of us has already posted her London photo diary and of course I couldn't stay behind. I was so sad to be leaving on Saturday evening; staying there for another couple of days would have been so wonderful. If only to have pancakes with maple syrup and blueberries for breakfast... I'm sorry, I'm just very jealous of all the people who have celebrated Pancake Day today :-)
Back to the subject of the glorious city of the United Kingdom! There is just so much to be seen and what WE mainly saw were shopping streets, subways and fashionable people. London is now definitely on my to-go-list as it has such an interesting culture and history and so many different things to offer. And I want to discover the infamous thrift shops :-)
I snapped lots of pictures with my camera and iPhone so please enjoy this little photo diary! Some images are courtesy of my travel buddies
Elien,
Afrodite,
Sabina and
Annebeth.
We were brought to London in style by
Eurostar! It was my very first time on the Eurostar and I must say it was an extremely positive experience. We traveled very classy in Standard Premier, which I would recommend to you all. The seats were supercomfortable (I could sleep there), the food was very good and we were BELOW THE WATER for like half an hour! So cool.
We had absolutely no problem amusing ourselves for those two hours on the train.
Tweet tweet tweet!
Lunch on the Eurostar: very yummy! That cheesecake <3
My outfit from the first day, which you have seen already.
After only two hours we arrived in London (where it's one hour earlier due to the time difference) and we were ready to rooooooooolllll. Look at us, being all excited and showing some love to Eurostar <3 I'd love to thank the Eurostar team again and especially Jasmien, who accompanied us!
Acting cool in the subway.
Next stop: the
Palmers Lodge Boutique Hostel (Swiss Cottage). We booked this pretty hostel (as we're all poor blogger students) because it looked so chic and authentic to us. Our expectations got exceeded when we arrived there: high ceilings, oak wood all over the place and the cutest beds you've ever seen. You should definitely consider this place if you prefer to spend all of your monayz on shopping rather than on sleeping.
There's just one tip I really should give you: have your breakfast elsewhere. The two tiny toasts and one dry croissant with jam just didn't suffice for me. Although a traditional English breakfast with sausages and beans is not my cup of tea, I thought this was just a little poor. I dreamed of pancakes and granola all weekend <3
SWAG.
We arrived in London at 2pm local time so after checking in at the hostel we went straight to Primark where we actually spent most of our Friday afternoon/evening. This wasn't exactly part of the plan but when we stepped one foot inside of Primark, our realistic-thinking-mind immediately switched off and the crazy-shopping-mode went on. We ran around like headless chicken, grabbing every item that was available in our size and after a few hours of intensive shopping we finally went outside again, superhungry, supertired but extremely satisfied with our gigantic Primark shopping bags.
Cooling off after the Primark madness.
The damage!
A lot more damage :-)
In the evening the sweet almost-local Aline from
Belmodo TV arranged dinner for us with several other ladies! We met up with my dear friend
Sabine, fellow bloggers
Kirstin,
Raquel and some other friends. We had the most yummy Italian food at Strada in Spitalfields and afterwards we got a glimpse of the Gherkin (I still don't know WHAT's up with that building but Annebeth went totally crazy).
Delicious chocolate moelleux Afrodite and I shared. Foodgasm.
On the second day we did a little bit of sight-seeing; we even hopped on one of those typical red buses! That's an absolute must-do when in London: you get to see so much more of the beautiful architecture when you're on the first level of the bus.
Afterwards we wanted to stop by the second shop on our list, which was (obviously) Topshop. And again, we didn't plan to but we spent a loooot of time there, although I only bought one pair of earrings and some cupcakes. Afrodite and Elien however totally lost their minds by seeing all those beautiful clothes and went crazy for a second time.
MINI CUPCAKES <3
Lola's Cupcakes, available right in the middle of the Oxford Circus
Topshop store.
After shopping some more we decided we had to have something very typical British for lunch. What's more English than some oldschool fish & chips? Nomnomnom.
Then finally we headed to what was supposed to be the main destination of our trip (which was not Primark, as you might have thought while reading this post): Somerset House, where London Fashion Week takes place. We lost quite a lot of time while crazily shopping and due to the fact we got lost in the subway for a couple of times we had to miss most of the fun. If we could've only stayed ONE day longer, we would've been able to actually see some shows.
Hopefully that's for next time, and for now we definitely enjoyed watching all those fashionable people posing and getting photographed and being good-looking in general.
Unfortunately I didn't snap a lot of pictures at Somerset House becauuuuse:
a) it was raining cats and dogs and that was quite horrible and
b) I was quite overwhelmed by all those fashion peeps and felt like a tiny, little, stupid blogger.
Famous people to be seen: we spotted
Susie Bubble giving an autograph to an 9 year old that was wearing a Miu Miu collar, a fantastic aviator jacket and some Prada creepers. Life's unfair.
SUSIE BUBBLE'S BUN, AMAGAD!
I was wearing this neon yellow bag, which I scored earlier that day at Aldo. Everybody loved it and two streetstyle photographers seemed to love it that much they snapped a picture of me! So I really hope to find those pictures somewhere on the interwebz soon :-) I must say I was feeling very flattered!
Then unfortunately it was time to go home again. We we were all tired but overall very happy with the London experience we had. We did however leave with a lot of pain in our hearts.
Wandering around in the very pleasant Eurostar lounge.
On the Eurostar, on our way home.... *sadface*
With wine... *happyface*
Hope to see you soon, London... You've treated us just wonderfully.
But next time there'd better be no rain, buddy!
PS: I hope I didn't disappoint you with my rather touristy pictures instead of fashion pics ;-)
